River In The Wings - Raynish Music Video

I've just finished a Ranish music video. It is mostly River, but in my mind Jayne is there supporting her in almost every frame. I've been trying to make this one ever since I learned of the existance of some of the clips that I've used. It's taken me that long to get my hands on them. These may be familiar to many, but since I'm fairly new to the Firefly world and completely new to the world of Joss, I hadn't seen them until a few days ago.

Disclaimer: It all belong to Joss, except the dancing and that belongs to Summer.

I'm completely gobsmacked by how wonderful this is. First of all, I'm delighted to see a vid set to a song from a musical! And this is beautifully edited and made me realize for the first time that, in effect, the end of the BDM *is* Giselle because by "dancing" until dawn she kept her beloved ones alive.

Thank you for the beautiful review! I'm just blown away. When I saw BDM I knew that SG was a dancer and that was what her fighting looked like. One thing just led to another. LOl your right about Giselle and the BDM, I was so taken with the movements as I put the vid together I didn't really stop and think about that.

The interesting question is whether Joss thought of it that way! And I noticed that the almost iris-out when the doors open to reveal River with her sword-and-axe, the shot is somewhat similar to the shot through the door to the kitchen area of Serenity (just before Jayne passes the bottle to Simon) only it's Mal's back instead of a front view of River.

It was also interesting to see the Giselle footage because SG was wearing makeup and had her hair up, which is a visual link to Inara, especially in her Shindig up-do.

Echos and doors
I'll have to listen to some of the commentary on the Firefly DVD's again. Joss talks about SG and her dancing and that she first worked for him in an episode of Angel. He even mentioned that she was a dancer in that one. That was what made me begin my search for the clips. Thank goodness for Tivo, it made it much easier. NOTE: SG is younger in the ballet clips than the Firefly or BDM ones, though she looks older....

I think Joss does a lot of interesting things with doors. He always has Mal and Inara standing in one. What a great symbol! (To come or to go that is the question). That is a plot bunny that I've got saved away...

I've had terrible writers block since last Setember and have been writing anything that will talk to me. This video helped me make some progress on a Rayne story that has been on my desktop since Christmas.

Sorry for the ramble.

I'm making a set of icons (from "Bird on a Wire," of course):
Simon-at-the-funeral "Why do you ask for so much?"
Inara-leaning-in-as-aforementioned-a-dorr "Why not, why not, why not ask for more?"
Mal-silhouetted-against-big-sky "I have tried, in my way, to be free."

Re: Echos and doors
This is my only M/I doorway icon, and it really doesn't show the door. I can do manips, but am still working on the icon thing. Whenever I add words they can't be read...go figure.

Re: Echos and doors
I think it's a question of the program. I'm using the le-se fake Photoshop that came with my computer, and it handles type REALLY badly, but I've seen lots of icons with really well-executed typography. I spent a really unreasonable amount of time trying to do a "Tis pity she's a whore" icon (with a Shindig frame) but couldn't get the type to display readably.

Re: Echos and doors
I've used one of my favorite icons for this one...

I don't think it is the program so much as my aging eyes...I am older than I admit to anyone except my doctor. I just can't read that darn small print with or without my glasses on!D

I'm 53. I just tell myself that, like Angel at the prom, in fandom I can "totally blend."

I'm here thanks to executrix. Just wanted to say that I enjoyed your video -- thanks for sharing. Definitely an original and interesting idea.

Thank you, I loved doing it and have thanked Executrix for spreading the word. It was especially nice to hear that my idea was original. I've only been into Firefly since this summer and didn't know if it had been in the past.

Hi, I came here through ff.net, and just wanted to tell you this was amazing. The editing was superb! Especially the reaver fight sequence. The link between the slow, almost classical like music with the violence worked (well at least for me) really well. The underlining River/Jayne was very subtle, but done with again great care and thought. You are a very gifted editor and video maker! Loved this!

I'm really glad you enjoyed this vid. It was thrilling to make it. Thank for taking the time let me knew you enjoyed my work. It means a lot.

Excuse me *Quiet knocking* Would you mind uploading this video again? I seem to have found the love of Rayne with real help from your fics... ;)

I uploaded it again, at Tubeit. I hope you enjoy it. This may be one of my best music videos, I know it is my favorite.
